Tirzepatide/Mounjaro for Weight Loss
As a practice we have started to receive requests from patients for tirzepatide (Mounjaro) injections for weight loss. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is due to publish its commissioning guidance later in December and will likely recommend this drug for specific patients to help them lose weight. Given that there are approximately 3.4 million people in England who might be eligible for tirzepatide there will be a strict criteria prioritising it to those initially at higher clinical need. At St Austell Healthcare whilst we recognise the potential benefits for patients, we will not be routinely prescribing this drug for weight loss until there is an agreed commissioning pathway in place for Cornwall GP practices that ensures fairness and equity for access for all eligible patients in line with NICE recommendations. A helpful update from NICE can be found here which discusses potential plans for roll out: https://www.nice.org.uk/news/articles/nice-describes-how-weight-loss-drug-tirzepatide-will-be-rolled-out Thank you The Partners St Austell Healthcare December 2024 🍂🍁 Autumn has officially arrived, and with that, our autumn newsletter.
