Our Mental Health Team

We are fortunate to have very experienced Mental Health Practitioners working at St Austell Healthcare. If you need help with your mental health, you may see one of our Mental Health Practitioners instead of a GP. They will be able to give you expert advice at the first point of contact.

The Mental Health Practitioners include qualified Mental Health Nurses. They can also prescribe and manage mental health medications. They do not provide a counselling service but can signpost you directly to the most appropriate service.

As our Mental Health Practitioners have a background of working in secondary care, they understand the criteria and services available. They have helped to reduce the number of secondary care referrals, and have helped patients access help directly and quickly.

Mindfulness

Paying more attention to the present moment can improve your mental wellbeing. This includes paying attention to your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you.

Some people call this awareness "mindfulness". Mindfulness can help you enjoy life more and understand yourself better. It can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.

In this video Richard, one of our Mental Health Practitioners, leads a session on mindfulness:
