Singing for Health – Singing Clinic Project in St Austell for people living with Fibromyalgia

Singing for Health is a programme of targeted interventions, using singing, voice work, movement, sound and Mindfulness. It has been developed based on research, evidence, pilot programmes and from years of experience.

We have groups running online for people with chronic lung conditions and for those living with anxiety and/or depression. The next group to launch is for people with Fibromyalgia and will run for about 18 months, during term time.

At the moment, groups are meeting online, using Zoom. This means that you can join the session from home. This is in line with current guidance around singing and covid-19.

There will be a weekly zoom session for a maximum of 12 participants.

Sessions will be on Thursdays (time TBC subject to availability of participants) starting on Thursday 17th September.

Sessions will be held on Zoom, a safe online space where you can see and connect with others in the group. During the exercises and singing, your microphone will be on mute, so no one else will hear you, but there will be times where you will be able to talk with others, should you wish to.
Before the group sessions start, each participant will have an individual zoom session with the project practitioners, Emily and Jane. This will help you to practise with the technology and logging into Zoom. It will give you a chance to ‘meet’ Emily and Jane, ask any questions and find out more about the project.

Both project practitioners are certified Trauma and Mental Health informed. Emily is a voice and singing for health specialist and Jane is a Sound Therapist, assistant vocal leader and percussionist.

It helps if you have an interest in singing, but you certainly don’t need to be an expert. Sessions will offer a combination of some relaxation techniques and also some opportunity to sing uplifting songs.

There will be a cost for participants of £10 per month. We usually charge a fee of £4 per session, so this represents excellent value. The first two sessions are free and payment will be due from October onwards.

Places are limited, so we do ask for your first payment to be complete before we start the sessions.

To register your place or to find out more, please email emily@cymazmusic.org.uk .
